Niki and the Dove

I know I might be a little late to the game, but I can't stop listening to Niki and the Dove. Hailing all the way from Stockhom, Sweden, this power trio of indietronica sounds like a mixture of Kate Bush and Bat For Lashes. Check out my favorite track "Tomorrow" of their debut album "Instinct". What do you think?

Listen and Enjoy!

Thankful

{Vintage silverware from Wooden Hive}

I can't believe Thanksgiving is tomorrow, where did this year go? Before we even ring in the New Year, I wanted to share who and what I'm thankful for this holiday season. I apologize upfront if I get uber cheeseballs on all of you.

1. My Family

I am so thankful for my incredible family. Even though they are 3,000 miles away, they continue to encourage me to follow my dreams and passions in New York. I love you Mom, Dad, and Renee - you're the best parents and sister a girl could ask for. Thanks for being amazing, caring, thoughtful, for listening, and for being inspirational each and every day.

2. Joshua Evan Roth

What was once a casual set-up by our mutual friends has blossomed into the most amazing 3 year friendship and relationship of my life. I am so thankful you came into my life. Thanks for being my rock, my best friend, for always making me laugh, and for making me a better person inside and out.

3. Friends

To each and everyone of my friends - thank you for being you. You all share a special place in my heart and I couldn't be more thankful. We've shared some amazing moments together and I would do it all over again for the smiles, laughter and memories. Love you all!

4. My Macy's Family

In January I will celebrate my two year anniversary at Macy's and what a fantastic two years it has been. In my short career I have been fortunate to work with some fantastic people and a majority of them have come from MMG and my S2M team. To everyone at Macy's - thanks for making work fun, enjoyable, creative, interesting and rewarding.

5. Bulldogs

Thank you English Bulldogs for always knowing how to make a girl smile. Whether you're young or old, you will always be my favorite dog.

Ra Ra Riot

I have been anxiously waiting to share this new single with all of you and here it finally is. Last week Ra Ra Riot debuted their first single "Beta Love" off their third studio album with the same name and it does not disappoint. This title track is a little bit Discovery, mixed with peppy/dance party rhythms similar to their first album "The Rhumb Line" and all combined together with a new twist and a fresh evolving sound.

I love the direction the band is headed and I can't wait to see them perform live at Webster Hall next year. Listen and download below, what do you think?

Weekend Adventures

It has been a long week and I am so happy it's finally the weekend. The last few weeks have been crazytown.  Between Hurricane Sandy, visitors, and traveling, I am beyond excited for Josh to come home, relax, and maybe plan a few adventures this weekend. Do you have plans? If not, check out my list of things going on in Manhattan and/or Brooklyn.

MANHATTAN
1. Theory Sample Sale
(Friday, November 16th - Sunday, November 18th. Fri:10am - 7pm. Sat - Sun:10am -6pm)

Who doesn't love a good sample sale? Head on over to Chelsea Market for the Theory Sample Sale (75 Ninth AveNew York) and save up to 60% off Men's and Women's clothing.  Theory makes beautiful basic and modern tailored pieces, but I feel are always priced ridiculously high. Fear no more because there are some major steals happening at this sale. Women's Tailored Jackets are now only $175 vs. an original retail of $395 and Men's Dress Pants are priced at $100 vs. the normal retail at $225. I'll see you at the cash register.

2. Ice Skating at Citi Pond - Bryant Park
(until March 3rd, 2013. Fri - Sat: 8am-midnight. Sun - Thurs: 8am - 10pm)

One of my favorite activities in the winter time is to go Ice Skating. It seems like the weather has finally broke and it's cold enough for the rinks to finally open. The best thing about this rink is that it is FREE. Bring your own skates or rent for only $14. See you out there Gordon Bombay!

BROOKLYN
3. Brooklyn Renegade Craft Fair
(Saturday, November 17th - Sunday, November 18th: 11am - 6pm)

Before the chaos of Holiday shopping begins head on over to Brooklyn's first EVER Renegade Craft Fair (East River State Park at the Williamsburg Waterfront). There will be numerous crafts, hands-on workshops, music, and more. I'm excited to find/check out all the wonderful letterpress holiday cards.

4. Tenth Anniversary Chili Takedown
(Sunday, November 18th: 2pm)

I love chili either vegetarian or meat friendly and am super excited about this chef throwdown taking place at the Bell House (149 7th Street Brooklyn, NY). Get your palettes ready and taste your way through at least 30 different chili variations. Previous entries range from pineapple-marinated brisket chili and a Thai fusion version. Those competing will be awarded by judges Rachel Wharton (Edible Brooklyn) and Cathy Erway (Not Eating Out in NY).

Bundle Up

The week of Hurricane Sandy it was absolutely freezing outside and I had to bust out the heavy puffy down coat, beanie, scarf and mittens to warm me up. I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week - which can only mean one thing, it is about to get real real cold very quickly. Check out my favorite winter accessories from my favorite designers, which accessories are you eyeing to stay bundle up this year?

Season after season, Hat Attack delivers cute, stylish, timeless accessories that make dressing up for the winter season effortless and exciting. I always love there Fall/Winter assortment especially the trapper silhouette. Head on over to their website to check out all the seasonal warm goodies.

I can't get enough of Kate Spade's winter accessories. I think it's finally time to retire my infamous "Bahumbug" Hat that I purchased several years ago and wear between the months of November - January. This season there are so many new options, I really enjoy the new Devil Ski Hat the best.

Head on over to Madewell for all of your polka dot winter accessories. I want all of them. A majority of styles are under $50 and would make for amazing stocking stuffers or work gifts for fellow colleagues.

Two Door Cinema Club

Last month I saw Two Door Cinema Club at Music Hall of Williamsburg and it was a wonderful treat. Surprisingly this was the first time I had seen this band perform live or really even listened to their album. Josh has been telling me about this band for years and I have never really given them a fair shot - what was I holding out for? They are amazing. Their music is perfect for any dance party. Check out my favorite song from their new album below. Which song is your favorite?

Noteworthy Notes

{C Wonder Stationary}

I popped into the C Wonder store the other day down in Soho and I fell in love with all of their stationary card sets. Every notecard is hand painted with watercolors and illustrates a whimsical C wonder gal in her daily activities or different fun loving furry friends. Obviously my favorite is the French Bulldog Notecards, but at $10.00 each, your wallet can afford all of them :) Which one is your favorite?

The Ultimate Party Dress

{image via Pinterest}

Now that Halloween is over - we are headed into the holiday season at lightening speed ahead. There will be endless amounts of celebrating towards the end of the year between Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, or Office Holliday Parties, that it's time to get serious about that ultimate party dress to wear to all of your festive occasions.

Before picking out your party dress - be sure to consider the following:

1. Shine, Shine, Shine - Everyone loves shine or sequins around the holidays so make sure to find a dress that has a little extra pop.

2. Comfort - make sure whatever dress you pick out you are comfortable in. Chances are you going to be spending hours in this outfit and you want to make sure it is easy to move around in (especially if there is a dance party).

3. Affordable - It is easy to drop a couple of hundred dollars on holiday attire. Be sure to pick something that is chic yet still affordable. There are plenty of websites that you can turn to so that you don't break the bank: topshop, asos, renttherunwaymodcloth offer great affordable dresses.

Check out the top five dresses under $200 I've been eyeing. Where are you getting your party dress this season?

Taylor Swift

I cannot get enough of Taylor Swift's "Red" album. Girlfriend sold a whopping 1.21 million copies in her first week alone, so I think the rest of the country is looking just as obsessed as I am. There are so many amazing songs on this album and I didn't think anything could top "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" but I can report that there is something even better. Brace yourself,  "I Knew You Were Trouble" is the ultimate jam and the most unique song on the album. Swifty takes a stab at dubstep and does not disappoint. Take a listen below, what do you think?

Run Renee Run...

This weekend Renee Sturm is in town to do the unthinkable - run the NYC Marathon. She has been training for months to complete the gruesome 26.2 mile beast and she is going to do it with flying colors. Through the Ronald McDonald House/AOL she was able to raise almost $4,000.

Karen and I will be cheering from the sidelines of Bedford Ave and then making our way uptown to the finish line. If you are around this weekend, come cheer her on!

GO RENEE GO!!
