Wordy Wednesday

Stephanie Sterjovski is a Toronto based blogger who specializes in fashion, DIY, decor and most importantly making adorable prints that I have been eyeing all Spring. I picked up one of her quirky pieces to celebrate my new workspace (which you can check out here). What once started out as a blog post titled "Wordy Wednesday's" which featured her favorite quotes, has now blossomed into a wonderful business. Head on over to the SS Print Shop and see for yourself. Her prints are whimsical, can put a smile on your face, and are super inexpensive. At just $15, I may just have to sweep the whole shop up. Which one of her prints is your favorite?

The Best Beach Bags

Nine West // Kate Spade // Mod Cloth // Jack Rogers // Hat Attack // Echo // Juicy Couture // MeeMee // Tory Burch

The weather this week got as high as 80 degrees. I have a feeling Spring has officially come and gone and we are headed straight into Summer - which means, beach season is finally here. Check out the best beach bags to carry around this summer either for your days at the pool, near the waves at the beach, or on a weekend getaway at the Hamptons. Beach bags are quintessential for me cause they hold my sunblock, yummy snacks, a great book, sunnies, and a beach towel. My vote is obviously for the Kate Spade "Play the Field" tote. Which one do you have your eyes on?

Martha's Vineyard Getaway

In just 9 short days, the girls and I are off to Martha's Vineyard to celebrate the glorious birth of Mrs. Laura Grace Goetz Gamse (LGGG) and her 30th year of life. We have not embarked on such an epic getaway all together since college. This is going to be just like Spring Break 2004, but much much much better. Laughter, cocktails by the beach, bike rides, gossip magazine reading, and a night dancing on the town are just a few activities the girls and I will be getting into. I cannot wait!

I put together a must have packing list for our weekend getaway. Don't forget the following 8 items for any beach retreat. I've got my eyes on that adorable heart printed one piece by Lauren Moffatt. What are your beach getaway must haves?

1. Beach Towel, Sunnylife Ipanema
2. Straw Hat, Hat Attack
3. Sandals, Joie
4. White Dress, Band of Outsiders
5. Beach Tote, Kate Spade
6. One Piece Swimsuit, Lauren Moffatt
7. Picnic Basket, C Wonder
8. Sunnies, Ray Ban Wayfarer

Tom Odell

I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon this past Saturday so the latter half of the weekend was spent relaxing and catching up with friends. The best part of kicking my feet up was catching up on old episodes of Felicity. Even after its sixth rotation, it never gets old. The show is jammed back with some amazing late 90s power ballads. Artists like Sarah McLaughlin, Heather Nova, Luce, and David Mclean - are all singer song writers who know how to pull at your heartstrings at just the right moments.

A recent singer song writer from the UK that I have stumbled upon is artist Tom Odell. His music would fit quite perfectly in any episode of Felicity. He was discovered by Lily Allen and later signed a record deal to "In the Name of" which is an imprint of Columbia Records. His debut album will drop June 23rd. Even Taylor Swift is a Super Fan.

According to the UK Guardian, Odell states "Having your heart broken makes fucking good songs". He is right, take a listen to "Another Love" below. Felicity, are you grabbing for that box of tissues yet?

Animal Farm

Baby animals always bring a smile to my face either when I see them at the zoo or simply in a photograph. They are just so cute it is hard for anyone not to smile. For the past 5 years, Sharon Montrose of the The Animal Print Shop has been capturing shots of everything from baby chicks to zebras, baboons to lion cubs. Her photographs are whimsical, adorable and will melt your heart instantaneously. Opening price point of her prints start at $25. I need at least 5 of these prints in my apartment. Take a look at her infamous Little Darlings collection below. Are you smiling yet?

Scatter My Ashes

Fashion documentaries have always been one of my favorite genre of films. The latest documentary to hit the big screen is titled "Scatter My Ashes" which provides insight into the marvelous high-end department store Bergdorf Goodman. The movie gets its title from a New Yorker cartoon. The film is packed with personal interviews with the retailer's top celebrity clientele, an inside peak at the infamous window dressings, and personal shopping advice from Betty Halbriech. Laura and I saw this film on Sunday and I loved it. Take a peak at the preview here.

Do you have a favorite fashion documentary?

Here are a few of my other favorites.

Unzipped
Having once worked for Isaac Mizrahi back in my Liz Claiborne days, his larger-than life personality never goes unnoticed. Unzipped is a true depiction of just how quirky and interesting Mizrahi is. What better way to see his true colors shine than in his element preparing for his Fall/Winter 1994 collection.

Valentino - The Last Emporer
I have to admit, before I saw this film, I was always turned away by Valentino's intimidating aura. My persona of him completely changed once I saw this film. He comes across as witty, uncannily creative and just so adorable. This film offers and intimate look into the everyday life of one of the most famous fashion designers in the world. It is pure eye candy from the dazzling couture dresses in his atelier, his beautifully decorated lavish homes all over Europe, to his perfectly sun tanned orange face. You will leave this film not only loving his adorable pugs but Valentino himself.

The September Issue
The most coveted fashion magazine issue that hits the stands every year is the September Issue. Take a ride alongside Anna Wintour and team as they prepare for Vogue's 2007 September Issue. The film is packed with witty quotes, fabulous cameos and clothing, a behind-the-scenes look at the hustle and bustle of the Vogue office, how photoshoots are created and how the magazine finally comes together.

Bill Cunningham New York
It is my life long dream to one day be featured in the Sunday Styles section of the New York Times. In case this dream never becomes a reality I can always turn to this fine film to get a real life glimpse of how this spread gets created week after week. For over 30 years he has been photographing fashion for the NYT. Every week rain or shine, he features celebrities, socialites and most importantly, the people of this beloved city. You can find him snapping away on the corner of 57th street every morning. Anna Wintour says it best "we all get dressed for Bill"

Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend made an appearance on SNL this past Saturday - were you able to catch Ezra and team in all their glory? They performed two great songs (Diane Young and Unbelievers) off their upcoming album "Modern Vampires of the City" and it got me really excited about their upcoming release on May 14.

Check out this up-tempo beat below showcasing Koenig's vocal chops at their finest. Plus, there is unique spoken word towards the end of the song referencing Jews. If I wasn't already in love before, this put me over the edge. What do you think?

Match Game

One of my new daily job responsibilities is researching suit trends and making sure our product is capturing the latest trends hitting the runway.  What is exciting about this trend is that it continues to reinvent itself ever since Yves Saint Laurent designed the first of its kind - the infamous Le Smoking Tuxedo Suit.  The suit trend is great because it is not only chic but it requires minimal effort/thought in the morning.  This Spring, all designers have taken this trend to the next level with unique silhouettes which are inclusive of crop tops, midi length skirts and/or shorts.  Matching separates is no longer just by color, but now embraces texture, print and even material. Check out my findings below. Which outfit is your favorite?

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day is just around the corner (May 12th). Have you gotten her a gift yet? What do you possibly get for the woman who has done and will do anything in the world for you? Flowers and a card are so generic - it is time to think of something special and a little out of the box. Think of her hobbies - does she love to host, spend time outside gardening, or cooking for the family? You can also get her something that she would never get herself like a wonderful piece of jewelry. Take a look at my gift guide filled with tons of goodies at every price point. Find anything good?

Lorde

Ella Yelich-O'Connor or the artist formally known as Lorde is currently attending Takapuna Grammar School (according to her wikipedia page) in New Zealand but in her spare time she is making sweet catching pop songs. I was introduced to this awesome artist by one of my new coworkers (thanks Sam!) and I am instantly hooked. She's got pizazz like Ellie Goulding and vocal chops similar to Adele. Check out her hit single Royals below. What do you think?

Perforated Perfection

The beauty of fashion sometimes lies within its details and today's details it is all about perforation! Perforated fabric is a trend making a big statement this season. Whether it is pierced, laser cut or hole punched the detailing can be cool, sexy, and visually intriguing. It caters to feminine dressers and edgier ladies as well. It can be found in just about any silhouette from shoes, handbags, and clothing. Take a look at some of my favorites below.
