Top 10 Shoes Needed in Your Closet

{image via Pinterest}

Marilyn Monroe once said "Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world."  There are 10 essential pairs of shoes that every woman needs in her closet.  I've created the ultimate guide below that will help any woman set up her shoe wardrobe for all of life's different occasions. Grab a pen and paper and be prepared to create a shopping list....

1. Classic Black Pump

A classic black pump is a staple for your work wardrobe which can be paired with either a dress, suit, trousers, and/or a simple pencil skirt. They can also help dress up any pair of jeans for a night out. Whether your eyeing a pair of Louboutin's or a more affordable pair from Nine West just about any brand makes a decent pair of classic black pumps. Who makes your favorite?

2. Ballet Flat

Ballet flats can be worn all year round and are essential for any New Yorker. Our days consists of walking all around the city and we want to make sure we are keeping our feet comfortable yet still stylish. I believe a few different colors of ballet flats are necessary. You can't go wrong with either a solid (black, brown, nude, or pop color), metallic (silver or gold), or a printed (leopard, snakeskin, etc.) style. I can't get enough of Vince Camuto's Ellen silhouette, so I bought it in black and nude, and am looking for other options this Fall.

3. Tall Boot

Whether it's flat or high heeled, black or brown, a tall boot is a definite must for the Fall and Winter seasons. Both silhouettes can be paired with a dress/skirt or tucked into a pair of skinny jeans. No matter the silhouette, your legs will be warm and still fashionable.

4. Neutral Flat Sandal

The neutral flat sandal is the perfect silhouette for all of your spring and summer outfits or when you need a break from your ballet flats. Neutral colors can range from a variety of colors: camel, cream, white or metallic like gold or silver. This silhouette can also be dressed up or down either with a cute pair of white jeans and flowy top or a fabulous sundress. I love these scalloped See by Chloe sandals above. However, my go-to neutral sandals are from Salt-water sandals

5. Evening Shoe

The evening shoe in any woman's wardrobe needs to have three key ingredients:
1. provide glamour at weddings or other dressy events
2. offer comfort for hours on end
3. flatter your legs
Metallics are an easy go to because they are neutrals and can wear well with any colorful cocktail dress. I prefer these Kate Spade glitter coated pumps for that little extra sparkle and flare.

6. Canvas Sneaker

For the days when you've got to run a ton of errands or when you just feel like bummin' around, there is that one shoe in your wardrobe that is a must have, and that is the canvas sneaker. My ultimate go-to canvas sneaker is the Chuck Taylor All Star. Slip on a pair of these and you will not only be comfy but you'll be chic as well. Head on over to converse.com to look at the plethora of colors that these bad boys come in.

7. Rain Boots/Wellies

The weather can be so unpredictable in the city that it is great to have a pair of rain boots/wellies handy at all times. For my birthday a few years ago a friend purchased a pair of the classic Hunter rain boots for me and they have become a primary shoe for the rainy seasons.  I also love ones that are printed be it in polka dot or plaid. Do you prefer the standard black or a fun print?

8. Ankle Boots

Ankle boots (I prefer the Chukka silhouette) are essential for Fall. They're cute, stylish, and comfortable. You can pick up a silhouette with a little extra heel which proves a little more versatile because it can be worn with jeans or a dress. Last year I lived in these Bernardo Desert Boots and every time I put them on my feet I got loads of complements. Who makes your favorite ankle boot?

9. Nude Heels

About 5 years ago, I bought a pair of nude heels for a friend's wedding because I wanted something different to pair with a black dress besides a black heel. I have been in love ever since. This amazing shoe, either rounded or pointed toe, can be paired with jeans or any outfit of any color - an instant treasure.

10. Wedge Sandal

The wedge sandal is my favorite silhouette during the summer especially because it lets you add on a few inches to your height but still remaining comfortable. And sometimes pumps/dressy heels are too heavy and humid. Appropriate color choices for this shoe are either a neutral (tan, nude, white, gold, or silver) or a fun bright color (red, cobalt blue, or yellow) depending on your wardrobe. My sister owns these Toms'sandals in just about every color cause she claims they feel great on your feet. I can't wait to buy a pair this summer.

What are your top 10 shoes in your closet?

  4. What a great list. You can tell you're not a California girl anymore -- Flip-Flops did not make the list. Fine by me.
