Spring 2014 Trends

Is anyone else feeling the winter slump? Even though January is almost over it seems as if we have a long road ahead until Spring. What better way to look forward to Spring than to get some early shopping done and clear away those winter blues. Check out my top trends for the Spring season that you will need to keep your eye out for when hitting the interwebs or the stores. Which trend are you most excited for?

Whoever says that the 90's are not having a comeback is in serious denial. Crop tops started popping up on the runways last Spring and it seems that they are sticking around for another year. This silhouette isn't for everyone, but when paired with the just the right bottom the look can be effortless and very fashion forward. Will you be bearing your belly this Spring?

The best silhouette to pair with crop top is the wide-leg trouser which is also making a comeback this season. I know you are probably thinking, if I am not six-feet tall nor a supermodel, how am I supposed to get behind this trend. Well fret no more, just find a pair that is leaner on the flare and a bit higher-waisted to elongate your frame.

You don't have to been an olympic athlete to rock one of these jackets. This Spring the sporty layering piece comes in a variety of fabrications, colorful prints and luxe textures. Similar to the moto jaket, the bomber is uber versatile. Try rocking this style with a girly dress to tame the look or complement its athletic chicness with some dressy shorts.

Fickle Friends

I was in DC this past weekend trying to escape the cold, but the weather seems to be just as depressing there as it is in NYC. I've found a band from Brighton, UK, that will help anyone escape the post-holiday/weather depression. Fickle Friends, the ultimate five piece band that will instantly bring you warmth with their new sing Swim. Their infectious single has a mixture of disco-chic from the late 1970s and a dab of new wave from the early 1980s. It will make you completely forget that we are stuck in the middle of January and make you want to skip forward to warmer times ahead. Take a listen below, who is ready for a Swim?

My Tiny Boyfriend

There is something about adorably dressed children that always makes me smile. My first loves came from the post that I wrote about my favorite fashion icons on Halloween and my latest obsession comes from theberry.com where all my lady friends will swoon. This has to be the cutest, fashionably dressed little hipster boy in the whole wide world - attention men, please take note. His name is Alonso Mateo and he hails from Thailand. The five year old is breaking hearts all over the interwebs and has a Facebook Fan Page of over 66,000 followers to prove it. Check out my favorite pictures of him below. I see a JCrew Catalogue in his near future, don't you?

Misterwives

Misterwives, a trio who formed last February, are not even a year old, yet they sound as if they've been making energetic tunes for forever. This youthful group blends folk and rock with similar vibes to the Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, and Florence and The Machine. Mandy Lee, the 21 year-old lead vocalist pens all of their tracks. What were you doing when you were 21?

They just debuted and EP titled, Reflections, which is chock full of indie pop goodness. The six songs on the EP, have a nice blend of dance worthy tracks and bittersweet melancholy tunes that will definitely find their way on any rom-com soundtrack in the future.

Take a listen to the entire EP on SoundCloud below. What do you think?

Horoscopes for 2014

I am a sucker for anything pertaining to astrology and your birth sign. Every month I read Susan Miller's Astrology Zone website to check out my latest monthly horoscope. I also follow Zodiac Facts on Twitter to get the most up-to-date tweets about my sign. Crazy much? I am totally convinced that I represent all aspects of a Virgo and then some.

If you find Horoscopes really fun, but have never heard of either of these handles then fret no more, cause what's below is a special 2014 treat. Check out Susan Miller's 2014 predictions for each sign below from an article she did for the Washington Post and then head on over to her website to get the full scoop for the month of January and so on. ENJOY!

AQUARIUS (Jan 20-Feb 18)
As you begin the New Year, you will have a superb opportunity to get fit, and to create a healthy eating and workout lifestyle that you will enjoy. Your overall health will likely improve substantially too, so not only will you look trimmer, but also your eyes, skin, and hair will radiate well-being.

PISCES (Feb 19-March 20)
Love can be brilliant for you while Jupiter, giver of gifts and luck, will open you up to the most enchanting phase. Jupiter will take on the role of Cupid until July 16 of your New Year, so look your best and stay optimistic. Married and attached Pisces will enjoy great happiness together and may decide to welcome a baby this year.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)
You have superb aspects for finding a new house or apartment or for fixing up one you have now while Jupiter, the giver of gifts and luck, remains in Cancer. If you don’t want to move, you can renovate or simply choose new furniture and/or accessories. You can be confident that you are undertaking your home-related project at the very best time in a decade

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)
The year 2014 will bring overdue changes—many of them very exciting—and lead you into new territory. As a Taurus, you are a fixed sign and don’t always welcome change, but this time, the universe will help you clear out all that has become unproductive and outworn.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21)
You will be quite a money magnet during the first part of 2014, an exciting trend that started in June 2013. You are now in a period of exceptional prosperity, so you may have already found lucrative sources of income last year, but if not, speak up for a raise or adjust your fees.

CANCER (June 22-July 22)
You begin 2014 as the celestial favorite, for Jupiter, giver of gifts and luck will continue to be in your sign until July 2014. Jupiter has not been in Cancer for 12 years, so it is a major advantage to have the planet of good fortune in your own sign.

LEO (July 23-Aug 22)
If you notice that certain elements of your life are being taken out with the tide, it is because the universe is now in the process of emptying your basket to make room for the golden opportunities that soon will be offered to you at birthday time and beyond.

VIRGO (Aug 23-Sept 22)
You’ll have the outstanding ability to make many new friends in the first half of 2014. Were you thinking of joining a group? Any kind of club would do, whether it is a professional group, social club, health club, or any other group dedicated to a single topic. Getting involved with social media will also benefit you now in ways you have not imagined.

LIBRA (Sept 23-Oct 22)
Your chances for success in your career will be outstanding during the first half of 2014, so investigate every professional possibility prior to the date that good fortune Jupiter will leave your house of honors, awards, and achievement, July 16.

SCORPIO (Oct 23-Nov 21)
For the first time in three decades, Saturn, the great teacher planet, entered Scorpio in October 2012 to stay until September 2015. During this time, you have been taking on a number of new life responsibilities. These new commitments will allow you to lay the foundation for a bigger, more stable, and infinitely more interesting life.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22-Dec 21)
You enter the year feeling confident, and rightly so. You are about to hit your stride, and although certain elements of your life still aren’t perfect, you have been through enough in previous years to know you can handle all that life throws your way.

CAPRICORN (Dec 22-Jan 19)
You may have been surprised how challenging 2013 turned out to be, but like the true Capricorn you are, you stayed cool, and rather see the tensions of last year crush you, the pressures you felt only brought out the best in you. Jupiter will continue to light your marriage sector, a trend that started last year, and will last until July 16.

Pajama Party

Is anyone else ready for Spring and warmer weather? These last few weeks NYC has had a cold spell. I can't remember the last time it got this cold. Can you? Even spending 4 years at Syracuse for college, I don't remember it ever being this cold. When the weather hits below 10 degrees it has been a struggle to leave the apartment on the weekends. Even heading into the office during the week has been painful. If you absolutely can't brave the cold and rather stay in, you might as well look cute lounging around your apartment or house in fashionable PJs. Check out my top 10 PJ sets gracing the web. I've got my eye set on all of them. Which one is your favorite?

Foxes

She's a little bit Lorde, a tad Leona Lewis, and a sprinkle of Katy Perry. Meet the band Foxes aka pop singer, songwriter, and powerhouse Louisa Rose Allen.  An English native originally from Southhampton and now based in London is about to take the music industry by storm. Her debut album Glorious will drop this March and I couldn't be more excited. Take a listen to her awesome power pop song "Holding Onto Heaven" below and see for yourself.

Flyte

2014 is about to get infused with a new batch of indie pop from four adorable Londoners from a band called Flyte. These Brits have a three-track 'Live EP' that is packed with cheerful guitars, tight harmonies and energetic percussion. It's designed to get anyone dancing. It is time to make a resolution this year and listen to more happy music in your life. It will be off to a bubbly start if you spin their infectiously energetic tunes below. What do you think?

Menswear Meets Decor

{Stripe Layered Bed Set - Midnight/Deep Coral, Quilt & Shams - India Ink, Quilt & Shams - Pewter}

My wallet is not going to be happy with me this Spring as West Elm just announced they are doing a collaboration with the ultimate plaid shirting guru - Steven Alan. For those unfamiliar with his work, for the last 20 years he has been crafting designs for both men and women on his subversive takes on the classics. His handcrafted designs are favorites amongst those who live in Brooklyn or Silverlake.

Inspired by the artisans of India, Nicaragua and Haiti, his signature style has been re-envisioned into bedding, vases, and rugs for every room. The collection is organic meets modern with a combined color palette of earth tones and clean design.

Check out my favorites from the collection below. Is it crazy that I want one of each?

So Fresh and So Clean in 2014

Considering the year 2012 ended quite possibly on the worst note, my only thoughts leading into 2013 were that we could only go up. We could only go up proved to be so right, because 2013 was a fantastic year!

It was filled with incredible adventures to new and old places, meeting some fabulous new friends, starting a much anticipated creative job, expanding on Pewter and Puddles, and nothing but laughter/good times with my amazing family and friends.

I've got a strong feeling that 2014 is going to be a great year. I will be celebrating a big milestone this year, turning 30 (eeeek). Also, weddings galore - including my sister, family friends, and a ton of friends from college/life in NYC. I can't wait to ring in the celebrations with each and every one of them.

There are quite a few things I want to check off my list this year in accomplishing. Here are my five 2014 resolutions/goals this year. What are your resolutions?

1. Learn Photoshop
2. Read more often
3. Book a fabulous 30th vacation (Club Med round 2?!?!)
4. Learn and cook new recipes
5. Train for another half marathon and beat my PR goal of 9:26 pace
